Help a child discover who they are, what they can create, and what they can become.

At Escuela Caracol, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow with confidence, creativity, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging.

Today, 80% of our students receive partial scholarships that make it possible for them to be part of our school community.

❤️ Behind every scholarship is a child.

❤️ A girl discovering her creativity.

❤️ A boy finding his voice and believing in himself.

❤️ A family gaining access to new opportunities for the future.

Your donation is more than financial support. It is an investment in a child’s future.

Your generosity helps provide an education that nurtures the whole child: intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, and creatively, through an approach inspired by Waldorf education and the ancestral wisdom of Maya Cosmovisión.

Our Goal: $50,000

The first Waldorf School in Guatemala

ESCUELA CARACOL is a non-profit Waldorf School located in San Marcos La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala. Since 2007 we have provided scholarships to the local Mayan community so that they can receive our comprehensive education.

80% of the students at Escuela Caracol and 88% of the faculty are indigenous Kaqchikel and Tz’utujil Mayans from around the lake, and we are a united community dedicated to improving education in the region.

Celebrating 19 Years of Escuela Caracol

For 19 years, Escuela Caracol has been nurturing children through an education rooted in love, creativity, cultural identity, and connection with nature. What began as a shared dream has grown into a vibrant community where children are encouraged to learn with their head, heart, and hands, while honoring the ancestral wisdom of the Maya. We are deeply grateful to every child, family, teacher, volunteer, and friend who has been part of our journey and helped make Escuela Caracol what it is today.

✨ SHINE YOUR LIGHT! ✨ TO DIVERSITY

TODAY we invite you to meet BETTY, mom of Nina, a girl who is jumping from kindergarten to elementary school.

Nina is a Mayan girl from San Marcos La Laguna, her mother tongue is Kaqchikel like many of her classmates. Betty loves the space at Escuela Caracol because it is a safe and spacious place where her little girl can run around like they don’t have at home.

TODAY we invite you to SHINE YOUR LIGHT and become a monthly sponsor for children like Nina, so they can enjoy this beautiful space and pedagogy.

TODAY we invite you to MAKE YOUR GIFT to diversity and support Mayan children, so they can also embrace a life with love, respect and creativity.

At Escuela Caracol we welcome each student with love, knowing that each one is unique. Meet Guillermo, a boy with a huge heart who suffered an accident as a baby and was left with paralysis in certain parts of his body, and his development has been slower. Guillermo is a restless child, he likes to run, jump, play, do homework, but because of his condition he started to be shy and to withdraw from others. This year his mother decided to enroll Guillermo in the Escuela Caracol and his evolution has been impressive, he has begun to speak more, to express himself, to feel more confident, to do the activities of each subject, he already reads, writes and is learning mathematical operations.

Escuela Caracol was born with the objective of preventing student desertion in the communities of Lake Atitlán and with the desire that the children learn in an environment where they feel safe, respected, their childhood is protected and they want to return.

During this 2023 we have been able to provide 117 scholarships for Mayan students, these scholarships include their class materials, all academic programs such as music, crafts, watercolor, free drawing, movement, English, and a daily nutritional snack that gives them the nutrition they need to move forward, it should be noted that all materials are natural and respond to the Waldorf pedagogy, and that all teachers have Waldorf training, better serving each of the students.

Waldorf pedagogy is a living pedagogy in which each culture embodies its diverse cultural forms in teaching and that is what further enriches the accompaniment of each of the children. At Escuela Caracol we accompany our students in a loving and respectful way from the moment they arrive at school until they are handed over to their families, since what the pedagogy seeks is to respond integrally to each one from their different personalities.

Documental

The realization of this documentary comes at a defining moment in the history of Escuela Caracol. Our educational community joined together in a systematization of experiences to reflect on the past seven years and identify the extent of impact that has been made.

Throw a smile into the air.

The fifth and sixth grade snails share with us the song: Throw a smile into the air.

Enjoy it.
